Health Care
  • In-Home Nurses: A nurse can provide a wide variety of services. Examples include performing physical assessments, drawing blood, providing wound care, and administering intravenous medication.

  • In-Home Therapists: These professionals may help with a variety of care to improve your condition and include physical, speech, and occupational therapy.

  • Home Health Aides: The workers may perform personal care and medical tasks such as giving medicines, bathing, or assisting with toileting.

  • Adult Day Services: Older people get supervision, socialization, recreation, meals and some health care and counseling for people living at home or at senior centers, nursing homes or assisted living facilities.

Help With Every Day Needs
  • Companionship Services: These services may include companionship, home supervision, telephone reassurance and friendly visitors.

  • Help Around the House: Homemakers and home care aides do chores such as laundry, cooking, errands, shopping and some help with bathing and dressing. Home repair services include minor repairs and maintenance.

  • Meal Programs: Meal can be delivered to the home (Meals on Wheels or Home Delivered Meals). Other meal options include other settings, such as senior centers and other such facilities that offer senior discounts.

  • Transportation: Organizations give older persons rides to doctors, shops, senior centers or adult day care centers.

Help for Caregivers
  • Caregiver Support Groups: First Choice offers groups that can provide emotional support and information sharing among people who are caregivers.

  • Geriatric Case Managers: These professionals can assess your parents' or loved ones' situation, connect them with appropriate services, and oversee the care they receive on an ongoing basis

  • Respite Care: These services provide care to relieve family caregivers. Care can be provided for a few hours a day to several weeks. The care can be in an adult day center, a nursing home, in the home or elsewhere.
